DUNWOODY, Ga. - Police are seeking a man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a 32-year-old man at a Dunwoody apartment complex on Monday.

Dunwoody police say Ivan Perez, married and the father of two children, was shot several times in the breezeway of building number eight at the Pointe at Perimeter Apartments located on Ashford Gables Drive on Monday at around 4 p.m.

Perez was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Sgt. Mike Carlson of the Dunwoody Police Department confirmed to FOX 5 that there was some kind of argument or conflict between the suspect and Perez.

Vanessa Perez, Ivan's widow, said that witnesses told her that it could have been a case of mistaken identity. She said she was told her husband denied being who the shooter was looking for.

Carlson says investigators are following up on some leads and questioning witnesses.

Vanessa Perez said she hopes someone can provide clues that lead police to the shooter.

"I mean it's important to my kids. I want my kids to know that the person who did this is no longer on the street and they can't do this to someone else," Perez said.

Perez added that the security gates at the complex have been open for six months, which could have allowed the killer easy access to the apartment.

Ivan Perez and his wife moved to the area from New York three months ago to raise their children, Vanessa said.

Police describe the suspect as a black male. They say he last seen in a silver BMW SUV leaving the entrance of the apartment complex heading towards Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Dunwoody Police Department at 678-382-6908.
