D Major at KSYM (1)
The Hip Hop music scene in San Antonio is alive and well with the help of two long-time local music supporters, enthusiasts and 2014 Southern Entertainment Awards potential winners in their respected fields, D Major (hip hop music director for 90.1FM KSYM and host of the five-plus year long running radio show "The Urban Suite" on 90.1 FM KSYM) & Sherril Metal (promoter, music writer, editor-in-chief of Going South Magazine & social networking junkie) are on-air five nights a week talking about it, and out weekly soaking it up, taking pictures and videos to share with their readers and listeners.
"The Urban Suite" is D Major's 5+ year long running Monday Night radio show that offers up the best in hip hop, R&B, and "surprises galore"! He works hard finding and breaking new music from the underground, highlighting local performers and global artists. Check-in to 'The Urban Suite' every Monday night at 7 to 10pm cst, on Tha1Radio (www.tha1radio.com). Tha1Radio also has a free custom app for your Android or Apple available as well (just search for tha1radio).
D Major believes that if the music deserves to be heard, he will spin it, and, Sherril works with the artists to make sure their publishing is in order so the music of San Antonio can be charted and seen. Sherril started her college DJ career at KLON in Long Beach back in 1979 and started working with artists in San Antonio ten years ago.
D Major was voted into the Top 10 and is up for the "Music / Program Director of the Year" award for his last year with KSYM, at the 11th Annual Southern Entertainment Awards. The SEA Awards will take place March 28, 29 and 30th in Tunica, Mississippi.
Sherril Metal, D Major's partner in crime and radio show co-host, is up for two different awards at the SEA awards, for "Photographer / Journalist of the Year" and "Magazine of the Year" for her online magazine that pays homage to the San Antonio music and Hip Hop culture, Going South Magazine! She was a staff writer (then later editor-in-chief) of S.A. Urban Newspaper, a monthly newspaper that covered the Rap and Hip Hop scene in San Antonio.
Going South Magazine (www.goingsouthmagazine.com) is in its 4th year now and will celebrate its 4 year anniversary April 25th at Fitzgerald's Bar & Live Music Venue (437 McCarty St., San Antonio, TX 78216). The party will be hosted by SpyMC of the Loud Mouth Battle League, will feature performances from Houston's punk/folk band Days N Daze
(http://daysndaze.com), San Antonio's Dead the Poets
(deadthepoets.com), and Kree23BN. This event will also be the album release for Mr. Composition, and we will celebrate the Born Day of San Antonio Hip Hop royalty- Royal King Minus (Audioforensicks, Supa Smash Bros., Few Music Group).
Sherril Metal and D Major are dedicated to the music scene here in San Antonio and have volunteered their time for over twenty years combined. Their love for Hip Hop is evident in everything they do. Come spend some time and get to know these two gems.
